Playing Santa Toy Drive
Moms with disabilities who live on fixed incomes seldom have the luxury of making the holidays happen without putting a strain on their personal necessities. Disabled parents face additional hardships during the holidays, and will do everything within their power to make sure kids have gifts under the tree….to make sure they have a tree, make sure they don’t feel deprived. Disabled moms face additional struggles when it comes to “playing Santa”. The sacrifices they often make involve sacrifices that endanger their health or put at risk other aspects of their lives. But that’s how moms are. Moms simply make things happen. Moms know how to get things done and we become Santa ourselves one way or another.
That’s why this holiday season, NWwDEF would like your help gathering toys for the kids of disabled moms in our community. Help us make their Santa role a bit easier and make sure they have toys to give to their kids without taking food away from the table or putting other aspects of their lives at risk. There are many disabled moms or disabled grandmothers raising kids, in our community, and having toys to give to them will be what saves their Christmas.
Having said that, NWwDEF launches an official TOY DRIVE to take place from November 20 to December 17.
Bring any new toy for ages 0 to 16 and drop it off at NWwDEF’s office at 1415 West Gray. Metropolitan Multi-Service Center between 9AM and 5PM Monday through Friday. Please do not gift wrap your donation as we will need to sort by age group and need to know what it is. (But if you insist, please label exactly what is in the package).
In addition to toys, you may also donate teen appropriate gifts such as gift cards, jewelry and accessories, lotions and perfume, gaming paraphernalia, etc.
If you are not able to bring a toy, but still want to donate, please know you can send a note attached to your donation with the subject line: “Playing Santa” and your donation can become as specific as you like, you can choose exactly where and how you want your holiday donation to be spent or distributed. You may donate directly through our Paypal button. All your donations are tax deductible.
