Houston, Texas 77019
During the month of March NWwDEF will host a workshop empowerment series for women with disabilities which will include some of the following themes and more.
- Ableism and the right to own and celebrate our lives as disabled women
- “Out of the box” employment opportunities and testimonials from disabled women in our community whose own out of the box ideas, creativity and survival skills will inspire all to find their own way of tapping into various wells of opportunity and resources.
- Discussion of Sins Invalid’s Ten Primers of Disability Justice
- Special guest speakers and/or panel discussion on issues that affect the lives of disabled women in our community.
With a special invitation by NWwDEF’s founder and president, Maria R. Palacios, the first Wednesday in March will open this month of special celebration in recognition of the contributions of disabled women in our community with a reading from Maria’s most recent publication Bubbles of Ableism: A Disabled Woman’s Journey of Love & Motherhood. Please join us as the author shares some of the passages of this story of love in the midst of ableism. Although the book will not be available for purchase at this event, you can register to win a kindle version of it and a printed copy signed by the author.
Wednesday March 7th
Poetic Storytelling with Houston Disability Activist and Author Maria R. Palacios.
Coffee and light snacks will be provided.
Stay tuned for the themes of the following weeks. However, do know you can just show up and join us every Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:30 PM and be part of this wave of disabled woman power.
You are loved.
You are beautiful.
You are who you are meant to be.
With Love and Gratitude,
